About
Michel DesNeiges (also known professionally as Michel L. DesNeiges and Michel LeBlanc DesNeiges) is a lawyer, writer and longtime public-interest advocate based in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
His work over the past three decades has crossed several fields, including environmental advocacy, law, public policy, teaching and community affairs. In the 1990s, he was active in the campaign to restore the Petitcodiac River and spearheaded the establishment of the Petitcodiac Riverkeeper. He later practiced as an environmental lawyer before moving into other areas of public law, including a decade-long criminal defence practice.
He now maintains a limited and selective legal practice while devoting more time to writing and other projects and interests.

Environmental Advocacy
In the 1990s, as a university student, Michel led Écoversité, an environmental advocacy group, and produced radio and television programs intended to raise public awareness of environmental issues.
He became particularly involved in the campaign to restore the Petitcodiac River. In 1999, he spearheaded the establishment of a Riverkeeper program for the Petitcodiac, an initiative that formed part of the broader public campaign that ultimately contributed to restoration of the river.
Legal Career
Michel began his legal career as director and lead counsel for the New Brunswick Environmental Law Society (2007–2014). In 2010, his private practice expanded from environmental law into criminal law, administrative law and child protection law. He practised mostly as a criminal defence lawyer between 2014 and 2024.
Teaching & Clinics
Beginning in 2007, Michel directed a public-interest environmental law clinic and lectured at universities in New Brunswick, sharing experience in environmental law, criminal law and advocacy.

Athletics (Alumni)
- Goaltender on championship hockey teams at the high school level (Mathieu-Martin Matadors), junior level (Moncton Jr. Hawks, Atlantic Junior Canadians), and collegiate level.
- National champion with the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (1989–90).
Martial Arts
- Began training in the early 2000s and earned a black belt with Maritime Shinkyokushin Karate.
- Trained with leading karate masters in Canada, Europe and Japan.
- More than 15 years' experience as a budō karate instructor.
Adventure Travel
Over a period of more than 25 years, Michel travelled extensively across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas, later expanding his travels into Asia and the Himalayas.
